Without Him I Have Nothing

This phrase is something that I have been repeating to my self constantly for the past month. One sin that often rears its ugly head in my life is pride- stupid selfishness.

My life has been so wrapped up in myself for so long that when Karl told me I needed to ‘pour into others’ I didn’t even know what he meant. But he was right- hit the nail directly on the head! I for so long had made relationships that focused solely on what I could get out of it, never the other way around. My selfishness had blinded me to the reality of life. As Christians, we are called to serve others.

“For you were called to freedom, brethren; only do not turn your freedom into an opportunity for the flesh, but through love serve one another.” 1

This verse didn’t describe my life for so long. I used my freedom to glorify myself instead of giving the glory to God, who deserves all of it. My sin had blinded me from the truth. I am nothing without Christ.

The last chapters of Job are a great reminder of the majesty of our God. He is worthy to be glorified and praised. We as humans should just simply be thankful that we are alive and healthy. One of my favorite verses is Job 38:12 “Have you ever in your life commanded the morning, and caused the dawn to know its place?” The obvious answer is no, not ever. God causes the sun to come up every morning and sustains its position.

He is the reason we live and the reason why we are blessed. This thought is life changing. If we truly believe this it will change the way we live. We have no reason to boast except through Jesus and his work for us. Again Galatians gives us such a good reminder, “But may it never be that I would boast, except in the cross of our Lord Jesus Christ…” 2

Without Him I have nothing and I am nothing. He is our sustainer and creator. I have repeated this phrase to myself so many times. My worth and purpose is in my God, my creator, and my sustainer. I pray that I never forget this truth.
