Hello everyone! I hope your day has been going well so far. I apologize about not posting last week. One of my main focuses while writing this blog is making sure I am doing it for the right motives and last week felt like it was simply not clicking. I rather write something that I am passionate about instead of going through the motions just to get a blog post out there. It will always be my goal to post every Monday, but sometimes it just doesn’t work out… Anyways thanks for listening and sticking with me! Now let’s get to the book.
“I’ve read the last page of the Bible. It’s all going to turn out all right.”
I’ve been reading this book over the past couple of months and it has been very encouraging! I do have to admit though it is a very long book, but then again Mr. Graham has had quite a long, impactful life! For those of you who don’t know anything about Billy Graham, he held evangelical crusades from 1947 up until 2005. He has been all over the world preaching the gospel to every tongue and nation. His love for the Lord throughout his life has been an incredible encouragement to me.
Throughout his life you can see God’s provision and sovereignty in every step of the way. I feel like for me it’s so easy to get caught up in a do-it-yourself Christianity. I’m reading in another book right now that backs up my thinking. I feel as though I’m working harder and harder every day without getting anywhere. I get bogged down and feel like a failure even if one dish is dirty. This is craziness I know! But this thinking is also sinful; I’m too focused on myself and expectations. My thoughts must be focused on the needs of others and how I may benefit them; and that was this book constantly reminded of. Pastor Graham’s life was and is focused on the needs of others and ministering to those needs in every possible way. When he saw a need he used every resource to fulfill that need. I want to have a legacy for Christ like this, that I put aside my own desires and strove to fill the desires of others.
That’s really what our Christian life is if you think about it. We are called by God to live a life in service to Him. Romans 6:17-18 reminds us of our position before God, “But thanks be to God, that you who were once slaves of sin have become obedient from the heart to the standard of teaching to which you were committed, and, having been set free from sin have become slaves of righteousness.” Billy Graham’s life in the ministry has been an incredible example of who were are to be in Christ. His love for other’s is astounding.
