Hello everyone! I know many of you out there often feel that everything in life is going in this crazy whirlwind and I have plenty of those moments too. God has graciously put me in a time of immense learning, but also a time of relative calm. I know that when I have kids everything is going to get much crazier so I’m living intentionally. Right now in the calm state of my life, I am intentionally growing spiritually and emotionally. So I think this book really applies no matter what your situation!
STEP 1: Examine Your Life
Our lives as born again Christians have only gotten crazier in this time of excess technology and stress. Before I read this book I often felt guilty if I didn’t finish my list or that my house was a tad bit messy. I thought in order to relax and refresh myself I first must have everything perfect, but in this state I would never be able to relax!
So I looked at my life. I looked at what was taking up my time and decided to cut many of things that were taking up that time. All of the little 10 minute social media check-ins really started to add up when I started recording them. I really suggest recording how much time you spend doing certain things during the day. I had no idea the crazy amounts of time that I was spending on the internet. So I decided to cut them out. No more looking at Facebook in between tasks. It took the intentional choice to cut those out and to fill them with better and more lasting things.
Matthew 6:19-20 came to mind as I thought about this, “Do not store up for yourselves treasures on earth, where moth and rust destroy, and where thieves break in and steal. But store up for yourselves treasures in heaven, where neither moth nor rust destroys, and where thieves do not break in or steal.”
Really take a look at your life right now and be honest with yourself. Are you doing what your supposed to be doing? Are you living in a way that is pleasing to God in every aspect? I know for me these were very convicting questions that forced me to change.
STEP 2: Recreate Your Life
So now that we’re all nice and convicted, let’s take a moment to preach truth to ourselves. We never have to do this alone. Our Creator in heaven loves us and has given us everything we need to change; all we have to do is want to change. He has given us the Holy Spirit to convict us and lead us in the way we should go. All we have to do now is obey what the Bible tells us.
Instead of spending our time uselessly searching the internet we can change and start reading a book that will shape us and convict us (like maybe this one?). Through God’s work in our lives we have the ability to change and be set free from the chains of sinful habits. Praise the Lord for His love!
“Without daily prayer for God’s daily help, I can accomplish nothing.”
STEP 3: Live Your Life
I’ve been reading a book recently about living a successful life God’s way and there have been a couple quotes that have really inspired me in living my life. When we live our life God’s way our lives will look very different than others. Our definition of success is not the unbeliever’s version of success.
“Success is the continuing achievement of becoming the person God wants you to be and accomplishing the goals God has helped you set.”
There is so much more freedom in this definition of success than there is in the worldly view of success. With this definition of success we can live our lives without fear of failure because if we obey God that automatically makes us successful. No more worrying about money, possessions, or status we are creatures who are successful because of our savior.
So we simply live our lives everyday intentionally thinking of our goals that God has set for our lives. Intentionally praying for God’s direction and strength for every circumstance in our lives. One quote I read recently really summed up the Christian walk for me, “We can never be perfect, but in striving for perfection we can achieve excellence.” The little things that we are obedient in will bring us closer and closer to the person that God desires us to be. How wonderful is that? So take a minute and ask yourself, “What does God want me to do right now?”
